About Academia Infantil Milagros Hernandez de Holguin

Our Legacy

Academia Infantil Milagros Hernández de Holguín stands as a living legacy in the serene locality of Jalonga, Guayabo Dulce, Hato Mayor del Rey, in the Dominican Republic. This beacon of early childhood education was the brainchild of the late Reverend Canon Ricardo Potter-Norman. In his retirement years, he envisioned creating a center of hope and learning for the preschool-age children in the Jalonga community, aiming to enhance their lives through quality education.

Foundation and Growth

Our Journey

Our journey began in 2001 when Reverend Potter-Norman initiated the project, securing land from the CEA. This vision was bolstered by support from faith-driven individuals and churches, including CHRIST CHURCH CHISTANA HUNDRED in WILMINGTON under the guidance of the IGLESIA EPISCOPAL DOMINICANA.

The project's first phase culminated in 2005-2006, marking a crucial turning point. Responding to a need within the community, we extended our support to local youth, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This initiative's success led to the establishment of a high school, accelerating educational progress in the Jalonga community.

Our academic program officially commenced in the 2017-2018 academic year, named 'ACADEMIA INFANTIL MILAGROS HERNANDEZ DE HOLGUIN' in honor of our mission. Beginning with a cohort of 60 children aged one to five years, we have grown to nurture 214 young learners today. We have proudly facilitated the transition of hundreds of students to basic education, receiving positive feedback on their subsequent achievements.

Continuing the Vision

In remembrance of Reverend Potter-Norman, who journeyed into eternity on February 3rd, 2022, we persist in nurturing his dream of fostering young minds. Our goal has expanded to welcome up to 200 children, strengthening their educational base while fostering familial and social connections within our community. In response to the project's success and the community's evolving needs, we have established an "Estancia Infantil" within the Milagros Hernández de Holguín Episcopal Project. This effort is in collaboration with Instituto Nacional de Atencion Integral a la Primera Infancia (INAIPI), under the umbrella of Asociacion Casa Abierta.

At Academia Infantil Milagros Hernández de Holguín, we are dedicated to continuing a legacy of compassion, education, and community development. We invite you to join us in honoring our past and embracing our future, as we cultivate the potential of every child in our care.
